I would like to correct an unfortunate impression given in your abbreviated report last week of the Walcha Rotary 60th birthday celebrations. It was suggested that I had made an exaggerated claim in respect of the participation of Rotary in some major projects of our community, especially in regard to the Olympic length pool, the squash courts and the aged care hostel.

In fact what I said was that these were begun with Rotarians acting as instigators rather than up front principals. In each case, with the involvement of other principal players, Rotary organised committees from the community and it was these committees that proceeded with the major fundraising, planning, lobbying of government etc to bring the projects to fruition. A similar course was followed with the Multi Purpose Centre.
Walcha Rotary is proud of its participation in these events but is aware of the reality of the process that brought them to completion.
None of these projects would have eventuated without the personal drive of dedicated individuals - many of them non Rotarians - who got the club involved as a catalyst. None of them would have eventuated without the often non-Rotarian community champions who chaired and served on the committees and turned the concepts into reality. And of course none of those projects would have completed without the remarkable support of the Walcha Community and the Walcha Council.
As a matter of interest one part of the pool process that Rotarians did complete solely as a club was the installation of the solar pool heating - quite a massive amount of work at the time especially since the original panels were defective and had to be replaced.
