As a result of dwindling membership the remaining three members have dispersed to other CWA chapters in the region, however they had one important thing to do before they closed.
Former member and patroness Christina Cochrane bequeathed her British Empire Medal to the CWA upon her death in 1986 and last Thursday the medal was given to the Walcha Historical Society and Pioneer Cottage.
Miss Cochrane took over the running of the Yarrowitch Post Office and Exchange from her mother in 1941.
The community of Yarrowitch appreciated her dedication to the community and her kind nature and it was reported that she worked tirelessly for both the Red Cross and the CWA.
In the late 60’s, Miss Cochrane was awarded the British Empire Medal in recognition of that dedication to the community.
Historical Society president Kate Hoy said the the medal would go on display in the Pioneer Cottage.
