Walcha Bowling Club barmaid Bek Harrison is once again taking part in the U.G.L.Y. [Understanding Generous Likeable You] Bartender of the Year campaign, which is the Leukaemia Foundation's hospitality industry fundraising competition. Last year Bek raised more than $10,000 placing her third in the State in terms of monies raised.

Since the campaign's launch in 2009 U.G.L.Y. Bartenders around Australia have raised over $8 million to help people with blood cancer.
“We have a few things on to raise money for my participation in the U.G.L.Y Bartender of the year this year,” said Bek.
“In-house games include the floating lemon game (win a six pack of your choice); pick the jack to win a jug (of beer or soft drink), and we are always running a 50 club (win $50) as well as the lolly jar guessing competition.”
A Melbourne Cup sweep is now available at the Bowling Club bar according to Bek, with sweeps of one, two and five dollars and 25 per cent of the proceeds going directly to the Leukaemia Foundation.
Moxon's Bakery from Armidale is helping Bek with a pie drive providing a range of pies and mini pies, both savoury and sweet; lamingtons; biscuits and a selection of quiche.
“Goods must be pre-ordered using the order forms at the Bowling Club,” said Bek.
“On Saturday, November 12 we will be holding a street stall, and we are looking for baked goods to be donated and dropped off to the Bowling Club on the Friday prior. Anything donated would be greatly appreciated so if there are any great cooks out there don't be shy.”
Bek is also looking for help from the community with another fundraiser idea.
“I want to have a lamb drive, and I am asking any local farmers who are willing, to donate a lamb to us to be sold at the Tamworth Sale Yards on Monday, November 7,” Bek said.
“Drop off or pick up can be arranged on the Saturday or Sunday prior. Please get in contact with me if you are interested in this, lambs will be sold as a mixed lot.”
With more cocktail sessions, U.G.L.Y merchandise and a locally produced nude calendar for sale, November at the local Bowlo is shaping up to very U.G.L.Y indeed.
