AFTER purchasing a loaf of bread last Saturday from Moons Bakery, I bought some raffle tickets off the girls selling them at Bec Hoy Dance Studio street stall. A couple of hours later, I couldn't find the bread but after backtracking my movements, thought it may have been left at the stall. Bingo - but when my wife Linda picked the bread up, Bec’s mother, Sally Ann, mentioned the story would want to be in the paper this week. IN a few weeks time, it will be 30 years since my first column “Caught in Slips by the Outside Edge” was published in the Walcha News. During the time since, I have been threatened with being sued only a handful of times - the latest just last week. Plumber, drainer and LP gas fitter Neil Dark was talking about legal action after it was reported he finished Walcha Wooden Spooner at the recent NSW Sandgreen Championship. As I told Neil, he will have to take it up with NSW Golf because their results were what the report was made up from. Hopefully, Darky had been in contact with events manager Olivia Wilson to ease his mind.

POOL season is just ground the corner and during recent times, both pools have been repainted. I have managed to splash some of the Olympic blue colour into my royal blue work trousers, and when Telecottage CEO Anthea Macpherson asked me what the new colour was going to be, I pointed at the lighter blue paint on my trousers. When conversing with Anthea the following day after she had been to the gym next door to the pool, Anthea told me the pool was nowhere near as dark as I had told her. She thought I meant it was going to be the same colour as my work pants not the paint on them. Blonde moment I suppose, Anthea.
LAST Saturday, my much better half Linda celebrated her birthday and unbelievably, I wished her a happy one more than what it really was. Shortly after, I didn’t feel quite as bad when Linda’s sister Sandra strolled in and did exactly the same thing. No hints, but the last two numbers on our number plate just happen to be close to the mark.
THIS Saturday, newly elected Walcha Councillor Rachael Wellings celebrates a birthday milestone of her own when she reaches 30 years on the planet. Happy Birthday Rach, hope you have a good one.
STILL on birthdays, South Sydney tragic Denis Makeham celebrated his 70th last Saturday with family and friends at the bowling club. Heard a whisper that there would have been a few bruised and battered boys around Sunday morning going on all the old footy yarns that were told during the evening. Hope you had a good one, Willy.
BEST of luck to all the players competing in the NSW Ladies Sandgreen Championships. Being held here at the Walcha Course this weekend. Due to the event, the course is closed both days with no members competition on Sunday. Any member who would like to assist in any way should contact president Allan Green. Your help would be very much appreciated.
LAST year I was “over the moon” to be named the first life member of Walcha Touch Football. I can guarantee that would not have have happened without the help of many people during my time as president. Four people stand out – Anne Martin, Ian Cameron, Kevin Ferrier and Billy Bullock. The life membership they received last Thursday is richly deserved.
RUGBY players and supporters should be aware that there will be a luncheon held at the clubhouse on Sunday, November 13 for Kevin and Tracey Storer, parents of former Rams pommy import Luke Storer alias “Shaggy”, who played here in 2008. Everyone is invited to attend to meet and greet Kevin and Tracey who have hosted plenty of Walcha players and supporters when they have visited England.
BACK in 2008, four pommies played for the Rams “Shaggy”, Steve Harwood, Greg Taylor and Neil Porter who was tragically killed in a car accident on July 26 while returning to Walcha after playing against Inverell. Sadly, Neil left this world a long way from home three weeks before what would have been his 29th birthday.
THERE will be a farewell this afternoon at the Apsley Arms Hotel for council engineering department staff member Ann Rojanawisut who is about to leave Walcha to take up employment closer to home in Sydney. You may remember Ann was the one who requested outdoor staff member Dave Abraham catch her a pink rabbit, but the only stipulation was when he did, Dave had to get permission from both parents of the bunny before he could take it away.
DUE to handwriting interpretation, Simon Cross was listed in last week’s Walcha News as Simeon Gross, the Colleen Cross Memorial was listed as Colleen Gross, and her husband, club patron and life member was listed as I.J. instead of A.J.
