CONGRATULATIONS to Anne Martin, Kevin Ferrier, Ian Cameron and Bill Bullock on having life membership bestowed on them by the Walcha Touch Football when the association held its AGM at the Apsley Arms Hotel last Thursday evening. Although “Pevo” is the only one of the quartet still involved in running local touch, all four members have volunteered countless hours over many years. Good on ya guys.

THE Swimming Club AGM was held at the Commercial Hotel last Thursday evening where president Angus Warden, secretary Cathy Mackaway and treasurer Cameron Greig were all returned unopposed to their positions. Flippers will splash off Tuesday, November 15 straight after school.
LAST Sunday marked the 31st time the Colleen Cross Memorial Trophy has been contested and the third time played for individually. Congratulations to respective winners Owen Presnell and Chenyl McDonald.
THERE is still debate about what format the event should be played under – mixed individual or even a medley. Last week, there was a good field of 29 players including seven ladies. In a mixed event that would have meant a field of 14 with the rest of the members playing an individual in conjunction for a couple of golf balls. The bottom line is the future format of the Colleen Cross Memorial is open to suggestions and will be decided at the 2017 AGM.
LAST Sunday, Team Goodwin won the 2016 Walcha Bowling Club Triples Championships when Steve, Nathan and Kyle defeated Gordie Bird, Greg Carter and Jamie Kerr 25-8 in their 21 end encounter. “AIF” reckons the score wasn’t an indication of the match where both sides went neck and neck early on. “AIF” and “Normie” now team up with Gordie and “Cart” to take on Ian Bird, Willy Makeham, D.G. Clare and O.P Sweeney in club fours.
BAD luck to the Walcha District Cricket team that was eliminated from the McDonald's County Plate by Tamworth Old Boys at John Oxley Sportsground, last Sunday. The home side was behind the eight ball after the visitors set them an assignment of 351 runs off their 50 overs losing only five wickets in the process.
WALCHA were in trouble at 2/5 in their fifth over before Jacob Sherrin (34) and Troy Yarnold (82) put on a third wicket century partnership of 125 but after they were dismissed in quick succession it was just about “good night Irene” as the locals limped to be all out for 161. Well done on getting to the second round of the competition anyway, boys.
POULTRY Farmer of the Week: Ed Blomfield (District) was the only one as there was no local cricket due to the rain.

WALCHA were defeated here by a very strong Tamworth Old Boys Outfit to the tune of 190 runs at John Oxley Sportsground last Sunday in the second round of the McDonald's County Plate.
The visitors set a target of 351 runs off their 50 overs for a loss of five wickets with opener Adam Lole leading the way with 103 which he brought up with a six the ball before he was caught by Ed Blomfield off the bowling of Mitchell Scrivener.
Number seven Old Boys batsman Mitch Swain enjoyed his 19 minute 29 delivery story at the crease, notching up an unbeaten 82 runs which included nine sixes and three fours.
Walcha were in strife early at 2/5 having lost both openers Ed Blomfield (0) and Dougal Eliott (2) within the first five overs.
A third wicket 125-run partnership between Troy Yarnold (82) and Jacob Sherrin (34) steadied the ship but when they were both dismissed in successive overs, the tide turned. The only other Walcha batsman to bother the scores was Daniel Boyd, who made 10 runs before he was run out.
Walcha were finally dismissed for 161 in their 35th over and were eliminated from the competition.
