CONGRATULATIONS to talented bike rider Jack Feltham who was a member of the New England Mountain Bike Club that were named Armidale Sportspower Senior Team of the Year of the 2AD Sports Awards in Armidale last Thursday. Jack was also a finalist in the Junior Sports Star of the year after representing Australia midway through 2016.

CONGRATULATIONS also to Anne Martin and Bernard Lynch who received Newcastle Contribution to Sports Awards at the same presentations for their dedication to their chosen sports. Anne has been involved with touch football, squash, Walcha rugby league and the Walcha Jockey Club mainly as their treasurer, while Bernardo is a Walcha Rugby Club life member and former rugby league president.
WELL done to Walcha’s three senior sports star nominees Robyn Broadbent (ladies league tag), Jason Lathan (rugby league) and Kyle Goodwin (lawn bowls). Walcha’s second junior nomination was Jorja Power who was nominated for horse sports.
WALCHA trio Steve Goodwin, Ian Bird and John McLean joined North Tamworth player Adam Carr to win the 43rd annual Pasture Wonderlands Carnival here last weekend. The quartet registered 6 wins and 0 defeats on their way to victory after 30 teams rolled bowls over the two days.
THE Ray Bird Memorial Shield for most successful Walcha team went to Denis Makeham, Matt Hamel, Tony Asmus and Mick Steep who played under difficulty on Saturday, reverting to just one shoe at times while suffering from gout. Wauchope bowler Billy Brooker was present for the 43rd time and is the only bowler to do so.
CRICKET’S Rugby League team allrounder Peter Mooney went from the penthouse to the outhouse in seven days when he was dismissed for a “Golden Globe” last Saturday after scoring a record 173 the previous weekend.

Round Swamp suffered their first loss of the season when they were defeated by Uralla by 44 runs at the Uralla Sports Complex last Saturday, while Colts recorded an easy nine-wicket win over Rugby League at the Park.
The homeside set Swamp an assignment of 212 runs, losing eight wickets along the way with Cameron Wood making 82 runs which included a dozen boundaries.
Contributions were also made by Kamhal Pannu 28, Nathan Swann 24, Nick Endacott 22 and Cameron Kelly who remained 17 not out.
Best of the Swamp bowlers was opener Lee Harrison who took 2/34. Four Swamp batsmen made starts but couldn’t go on with it – Harrison 39, Wellings 36, Eveleigh 33 and Lord 28.
The destroyer for Uralla was Ryan Walker with 5/21.
Batting first, League amassed 143 after opener Mick Boyd racked up an unbeaten 44.
Blomfield opened the bowling and claimed 2/26 off his 10 overs. Jacob Sherring picked up 2/29, while Phil Frewen bowled Peter Mooney for a duck and Stu Hobbs grabbed the other scalp.
Player of the Match Blomfield cracked three sixes and seven fours on his way to an unconquered 108, putting on 66 in an opening partnership with Josh Wellings, who scored 16, and then 80 with Sherrin.
