“As one of the most heavily used roads in the Walcha area, it is important that we remove the constraints of the current bridge, which only allows one lane of traffic to pass at a time,” Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.
“By increasing the width of the bridge by almost three metres we are making significant safety improvements as well as increasing efficiency along Thunderbolts Way, a key freight route for cattle and grain heading to markets in northern NSW and Queensland.”
The existing bridge on Thunderbolts Way will be closed on Monday to allow for construction works to take place on the bridge structure, with other works on the project already underway.
To ensure motorist and worker safety a bypass track will be in use until late April.
