The 2017 showgirl zone finals will be held in Walgett this weekend and the winner will progress to the state final at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Tanisha will come up against other finalists from the zone in a showdown of interview questions with a judging panel at a sit-down luncheon, and a formal dinner, where the winner will be announced.
Originally from Rollands Plains, Tanisha moved to Walcha with her cattle farming family four years ago.
Now a busy mother of one-year-old son Matthew, Tanisha says the time was right to go for her goal of being a showgirl.
“I had been thinking about running for Walcha Showgirl after friends suggested I do it a couple of years ago but last year wasn’t the right time as I was having a baby,” she said.
“This year I thought there is nothing stopping me now, so I went for it.”
In preparation for this weekend Tanisha and 10 other Showgirls from three zones attended a deportment workshop in Glen Innes last month.
Tanisha represented the Walcha Show while others attended representing shows in Taree, Bangalow, Mullumbimby, Dorrigo, Inverell, Warialda, Moree, Narrabri and Merriwa.
The two day weekend covered all the possibilities which may arise this weekend.
Presenter Adi Ritchie from ‘Polish Works’ said she was particularly pleased with the interaction in the workshop by the young ladies.
“The ladies received instruction in etiquette, grooming, diet, stress management, clothing selection, speech making plus assistance from mentors who have been involved in the judging process,” she said.
The girls then enjoyed a dinner on the Saturday evening to put all they had learned into practice.
“I found it very beneficial for a young lady going into the Showgirl industry,” Tanisha said.
“I have also been reading The Land to keep up to date with what is going on in the agricultural industry and to help me prepare for my interview and my after dinner address.”
