There will be two hack rings on Friday, with led classes, ridden breed classes and Walcha District hack classes, plus the brumbies. The jumping ring will be operating from 9am.
On Saturday, the ring program gets underway at 8am, with three hack rings, plus the jumping ring.

This will be followed by the hack classes, and in the jumping ring more exciting events with nearly $2000 in prize money for the winners.
After the Grand Parade the ring program will continue with the sporting events. The program will conclude with the ever popular Demolition Derby, with $1000 in prize money.
Cattle classes
The cattle section is expecting a good roll up of cattle breeders with Angus this year's feature breed.
Many local studs will be represented and it's an excellent opportunity to have a look at some prospective sires or blood lines for your herd.
On the Friday afternoon the program begins with the junior heifer show sponsored by Elders and Landmark Boultons, followed by the junior parader's competition, which will attract the usual ribbons as well as an encouragement award kindly donated by Robert Drew, "Glenroy".
The main judging gets under way on Saturday, with many breeds represented and all competing for wins and ultimately for the supreme beast.
There are some great interbreed trophy's up for grabs donated by "Cairnie", Nairn Park, Yalgoo, Ivy Bank, Ben Nevis, and Merlanie. Thanks to Brain Smith Transport and Peter O'Keefe Earthmoving for all their help.
Show jumping
Show Jumping will once again feature on both days of the Walcha Show. Friday’s busy day of jumping will conclude with the entertaining Under 17 Years and Open Six Bar competitions being held in the main ring in front of the bar.
Last year local rider Chloe Swanton took out the Under 17 Years Six Bar and was awarded the Jess Mathews Memorial Trophy, while Cudgera Creek’s Brock Everingham had the crowd cheering as he took out the Open.
Saturday’s program will see three official events, including the Explorer Estate 1.20m Grand Prix with a prize pool of $1000, and conclude with the fun and hilarity of the ‘Hoof and Woof’ novelty event where horse and rider, followed by the rider and a dog, tackling a simple course.
Meat sheep
After a successful return of a meat sheep section to the Walcha show in 2016 the Walcha show committee is looking forward to continued support from local and regional stud breeders at the 2017 Walcha show.
The 2016 meat sheep show attracted nine individual studs and one hundred sheep, varying breed types of maternal and terminal breeds were represented on the day. It’s hoped that similar numbers of exhibitor’s and sheep will attend the 2017 show.
The meat sheep section is an opportunity for stud breeders local and regional to showcase their stock. It’s also a great opportunity for the public to see up close sheep breeds which are familiar and not so familiar
The meat sheep judging will start at 9am Saturday March 18 at the stud sheep shed between the front gate and the bar.
There will be several studs competing for champion of breed and grand champion interbreed and will consist of the following breeds Border Leicester, Poll Dorset, Whiteface Suffolk, black face Suffolk, White Dorper. The sheep shed will be open for all in attendance at the show to come and visit during judging.
Horticulture
We are looking forward to another successful display of Cut Flowers and Botanical Art in our Horticulture Pavilion this year. It has been a difficult time for gardeners but I have no doubt that some people have a little surprise in their garden and will be eager to enter it in the Walcha Show.
“The Block” is this year’s creation, constructed by members of The Botanical Designers Group of NSW, well worth a look.
The Horticulture Pavilion has benefited from the recent Open Gardens that were held at Walcha with a generous donation towards a storage cupboard. A big thank you to the Walcha Garden Club for their ongoing support of the Walcha Show.
You can place your entries into the Horticulture pavilion on Thursday, March 16 from 10am to 5.30pm.
TIP - Pick flowers the afternoon before and condition them by putting them into a 10 litre bucket of warm water with a teaspoon of vinegar and 1 dessertspoon of bleach. Enquiries to Phyllis Hoy on 0439 310 844.
Merino sheep
The Walcha Merino judging starts at 9am on Friday, March 17, and will finish at 3pm.
There will be a great line up of Merino sheep with studs having their last competition before competing at the Sydney Royal Show.
Ultrafine, superfine, fine and medium wool rams and ewes will be judged on the day. The wool market is at a record high so what a great time to come along and have a look at the genetics on offer.
The New England region boasts some of the best merino genetics in NSW and has produced the Supreme Exhibit at the Sydney Royal show on more than one occasion over the last few years.
