Wayne Brennan converted a nine shot lead at the halfway mark into a 12 stroke victory when he won his first Walcha Gold Club A grade championship last Sunday.

He closed with his lowest score over the four rounds, a one over par 71 to give him an overall total of 292 (72, 74, 75, 71). Runner up was Anthony Smith on 304 (79, 76, 74, 75). John Mann took out B grade with 330 (82, 85, 84, 79) from Lee Fletcher 334 (83, 89, 82, 80) while club president Allan Green snuck home in C grade 374 (99, 91, 88, 96) from Max Holstien 375 (92, 94, 89, 100).
The Nick Cross Memorial trophy for best overall nett score went to Wayne Brennan on 271 (66, 69, 70, 66) two clear of both John Mann and David Sweeney.
Club captain Will Brennan won the veterans championship with a two round total of 159 (80, 79) just one stroke ahead of Simeon Cross 160 (82, 78). Last Saturday David Sweeney was the winner of the secretary’s trophy donated by Jenny Hisk with a 65 nett while on Sunday John Mann defeated Don Brooks in a play off to take home the President’s prize.
Sharpest shooters at the pins were Simeon Criss (3), Ed Churchill (9), Wayne Brennan (18 and 18) on Saturday while on Sunday Jenny Lisle (3), Tim Beaumont (9), Vic Coulter (16) and Penny King (18) were the most accurate. This Saturday is a Regional Australia Bank stroke medal round to be played in conjunction with a trophy donated by Jack O’Hara.
