In spite of the damp and drizzly weather conditions, all events bar one went ahead. Rain cancelled the novice and open yard dog trials on Saturday.
Quality exhibits filled all the pavilions and both the rose section of the horticultural pavilion and the poultry pavilion reported record entries.
Thanks to a great growing season, the main pavilion required more tables this year to cater for the abundance of produce.
Current Mrs Australia, Leila Sweeney-McDougall, opened the show and shared her fond memories of what the event meant to her as a child growing up in Walcha, including the perennial peanut drop, junior rodeo and a sneaky arm wrestle.
“I was recently asked to put forward a proposal of what a local show in Victoria should be like, and I based my suggestion on the Walcha Show, which they loved,” Mrs Sweeney-McDougall said. “We have one of the best shows in Australia.”
