WHAT a difference a week makes in sport this time at golf. They might have been in the Lefthanders team belted by the Righthanders 5-0 the previous weekend but didn’t Mollydookers’ Mal Ballard and Jamie Bowden bounce back seven days later in the 2017 Men’s Foursomes Championships last Sunday.

“BOWDO” teamed up with his son Andrew to win the scratch, while Mal Ballard joined forces with Newie 2IC Bob Denniss to take out the nett. Good on ya, that’s good golfing boys.
Dean Tumer did a good job controlling the team while developing a good partnership which improves each week. A special mention to lightweight winger Jhorden Coulter who scored his first try of the season after he produced a good side and blistering pace to race over near the posts.
BEST of luck to the Walcha Veterans Golf team when they travel to Guyra for the final round of the New England Pennants competition next Thursday. Walcha are currently sitting on top of the ladder on 243 points followed by Guyra 236, Uralla 216, Armidale 213 and Armidale Blue on 185. The more Walcha players who travel to Guyra for the event next week, the better the chances of securing the big prize, so give the clubs a shine lads and get into the swing of things.
Jillaroos still on top
THE Walcha Jillaroos didn’t play last Saturday but still remain on top of the Group 4 Second Division Ladies League ladder equal with Kootingal on 10 points. The Roos bounded into equal fourth position with Bundarra and Barraba when they defeated Bingara last Saturday.
THE Roos and Jillaroos hit the road and travel to Barraba this Saturday while the Rams will cool their heels with a spell due to the zone bye for the Country Championships down at Port Macquarie.
Rams run rampant
THE Walcha boys scored 148 points and conceded 29 when the Rams and the Roos played their Central North campaign with a punishing 88-17 win over Quirindi as the Roos demolished Bingara 60-12. It could be a very long season for both the Lions and the Bullets.
AT the Park, the Rams ran riot, crossing the line for 13 tries including impressive hat tricks to Ed Churchill, Ed Cordingley and Pat Keene, a brace to Richard Young while Dominic Bower and Ross Fletcher also touched down. “Roscoe” was the only forward to score with the remaining points coming from the boot of Simon Newton who kicked nine conversions and a penalty goal along with a conversion by Ed Cordingley.
OUT at John Oxley, the Roos ran in 11 tries Juek Abraham leading the way with a hat trick while Steve Eveleigh crossed for a couple of “meaties” and raised the flags on six occasions. Halfback Bevan Wood and five-eighth Dean Tumer did a good job controlling the team while developing a good partnership which improves each week.
A SPECIAL mention to lightweight winger Jhorden Coulter who scored his first try of the season after he produced a good sidestep and some blistering pace to race over near the posts.
