NEDGA Ladies president and “Waterloo” mayoress Penny King registered a club record, equalling 20 putts in a recent local stroke medal round and joins her mother Betty Borthwick, current club champion Cheryl McDonald and former club champion Rebecca Andrews (nee Berry) as record holder for least putts in a round. Penny is also a member of the Walcha team that recently won the 2017 New England Veterans Pennants competition.

NOT all members of the Walcha squad played the final round of that competition at Guyra a few weeks back, but do deserve recognition for being part of the team. According to one of the team organisers Crichton Barr, the other players to contribute during the three previous rounds were Bob Denniss, Lee Fletcher, Lorraine Rennie, Margaret Higgins, Barry Hoad, Jenny Lisle and Bill Heazlett, while Alex Gill and Jill Burnell both played at Guyra but missed the photo.
Walcha went within a whisker of claiming victory last Saturday at the Park against Werris Creek in their Group 4 Second Division match, but a try was disallowed right on fulltime.
ALTHOUGH Penny King doesn’t hold any official position here at home, the district president is excited Walcha has 13 new lady members and is on the lookout for more. Penny also reports that former Tamworth professional Terry Hayes will be in Walcha on June 8 and 15 to conduct golf lessons. ALTHOUGH Walcha didn’t have things all their own way at John Oxley Sportsground last Saturday against Gunnedah, the Rams managed to defeat the Red Devils 13-5 to remain undefeated so far in the Central North Rugby competition. This Saturday, the Rams travel to Narrabri to take on the Blue Boars who are currently in third spot on the competition ladder on 15 points, four points behind Walcha. Go the red and whites.

Scoreboard attendant Jamie Wall reckons he saw Jock Abraham ground the ball over the tryline, but unfortunately the referee saw differently. Credit to the Creek boys though, they played the entire game without any bench players.
FOR the fourth time this season, the Walcha Jillaroos registered 18 points in a game and also for the fourth time, that was enough for the girls to clinch victory. The girls are currently in second spot on the ladder and this Saturday will take on Bundarra who are on the bottom of the ladder.
THE Bundara Bears, however, are in equal second position on the men’s ladder, so the Roos will be expecting another tough contest when they travel to Bundara on Saturday. Best of luck to all Walcha footy teams this weekend.
