A BELATED congratulations to talented veteran allrounder Stephen John Sweeney who recently added another string to his ever-increasing bow when he won the B Grade Lawn Bowls Championship after he rounded up Jamie Kerr in the final 31 - 10. Not a bad effort considering Jamie was also runner-up to Kyle Goodwin in the A Grade Championships.

WELL done also to both Glenno “Roy” Olrich and Robert “Charlie” Brown who hit 180s at the recent Oxley Darts Singles Championships. Men’s winner was Matt Allen who defeated Bill Pearce, while in the ladies, Lisa Swanton rounded up Tonya Tucker in their final. Good on ya, guys, sorry about the late mention but at least it’s better than never.
GREAT to see some youth among the golf ranks last Sunday when schoolboy Zac Warden teed up in the monthly Regional Australia Bank stroke medal round. Zac collected the nearest-the-pin prize on the ninth hole while recording a nett score of under the ton.
THE Walcha Rams returned from their big road trip down south to Scone last Saturday with a hard-fought 37-31 victory under their belt. The “Reggies” weren’t quite as fortunate after they went into their game. With injuries in the first half, the match was called off at half time. This Saturday, the Rams host the other Rams in the Central North Competition Barraba.
AFTER suffering only their second defeat in nearly two years the previous weekend, the Walcha Jillaroos bounded back when they accounted for a determined Bendemeer outfit last Saturday here at the Park. The girls won 16-0 after scores were locked up nil-all at halftime. They are currently in equal second position on the competition ladder but third on points for and against behind Kootingal and Uralla.

DESPITE leading 10-6 after 30 minutes against Bendemeer last Saturday, the Roos made far too many mistakes especially in their own territory to win the game. The boys know they need to lift their performances and hopefully that will begin at Manilla this Saturday.

A REGIONAL Australia Bank stroke medal round was contested last Sunday where Simone Sweeney was the winner after carding a 68 nett which also entitled her to the B Grade mug and a trophy donated by Wayne Brennan.
Club captain Will Brennan won A Grade on a countback from Barry Hoad after both players registered 73 nett. He also took out the putting with 24 jabs.
Veteran lefthander Warwick Hogan claimed the C Grade mug with a 70 nett while sweepstakes went to Steph Sweeney on 71 and Barry Hoad 73. Longest drives went to Tim Beaumont (A) and Allan Green (C). No B Grader found the fairway. Sharpest shooters at the pins were Vic Coulter (3), Zac Warden (9), Cheryl McDonald (16) and Simone Sweeney (18).
Best scratch score was a four over par 74 by 2016 club champion Andrew Brennan but as he is a trainee professional, he wasn’t entitled to the prize which went to ladies club champion Cheryl McDonald on 82 off the stick.
In match play, Angus Warden defeated David Sweeney on their 19th hole. The coveted Pink Shirt for most putts was snared by Andrew Robertson with 34.
This Sunday is the Manilla Open while here at home, D.A. Locke is providing the prize for a stableford round. Clubhouse duty - Lee Fletcher.
