“We have an opportunity to apply for significant funding through a new stream of the NSW Government’s Regional Growth Fund,”said Walcha Council general manager Jack O’Hara.
“The Stronger Country Communities Fund is designed to improve economic growth and productivity through investment in regional communities so this is a real opportunity to invest in the infrastructure of our community.”
Walcha Council met earlier this month to discuss and identify projects that fit the required criteria. The projects supported must involve building new community facilities, refurbishing existing local facilities or enhancing our local parks and the supporting facilities.
“All projects must be ready to commence within 12 months and be completed within two years,” Mr O’Hara said.
“Council has identified three projects which meet the criteria.”
The construction of a new larger preschool building to increase the licenced student capacity and ensure the school’s ongoing viability is one project which fits the requirements.
Lighting at the John Oxley Sportsground and underground irrigation at Walcha Oval is another. While structural repairs and upgrade work at the Walcha Pool is also required.
“One of the essential criteria in the application for the Stronger Communities Fund is the support of the local community for the projects nominated,” Mr O’Hara said.
“With this in mind, we are inviting all members of the community to submit a letter of support for the listed projects stating how the projects will improve the facilities and services on offer to the Walcha community.”
The letters need to be received by council before August 7.
“If you require any additional information on any of these projects please do not hesitate to contact us,” Mr O’Hara said.
