“We believe these projects will have a positive effect on the community in terms of safety, productivity and the improvement of community assets,” said Walcha Council general manager Jack O’Hara.
Council is seeking letters of support from the community for the replacement of four bridges; the middle street upgrade; Thunderbolts Way access and the intersection of Nowendoc Road with Brackendale Road.
The four bridges to be replaced are: Niangala Road Bridge; Old Brookmount Bridge; Englefield Road Bridge and Wollun Road Bridge.
The Thunderbolts Way access project includes a strategy in collaboration with MidCoast Council to improve safety and productivity and the upgrade of Hamilton and Jamieson Street.
The NSW Government is making $100 million in funding available in Round Three of Fixing Country Roads to boost the efficiency of freight transport from paddock to port.
“The NSW Government continues to invest heavily in improving freight networks in our region because they are committed to regional NSW,” Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.
“Already, Transport for NSW Freight Industry Branch has conducted workshops in Tamworth with strong interest from our local councils.
“I have already been speaking with our local councils about some exciting projects so I will fight hard to ensure we get a fair share of funding under this program.”
Councils were at the workshops to discuss the best way to articulate the economic benefits of their road projects, an essential part of qualifying for funding in the application process.
Projects in Walcha that have previously been funded under Fixing Country Roads include the widening of Bergen Bridge and replacing the Flags Niangala Bridge.
