Kids’ Fun Day is on Saturday and features the kids’ fashions on the field event. Entry is free for kids on Saturday, with large numbers taking part in the fashions as well as enjoying the jumping castle, face painting, a bucking bull and more. There is also a prize for the best dressed family.
Fashions on the field coordinator, Sarah Rose, volunteers her time to make sure the fashion events are a huge success.
New to the Walcha Cup race day is our registration of fashions. Judges will be looking for the best in all categories but you have to enter.

“ I have been in this role for six years now and enjoy every part,” Ms Rose said. “I love a challenge, trying new things and most of all the fashion stakes. We have a number of very hard working ladies on the committee who also do a lot of work to make sure the fashions are such a successful event.”
Friday is the main day for the fashion events and there will be more than $3000 in prize money.
Categories will include: Best dressed lady; best dressed gentlemen; fashionable filly; most colourful; best couple and a millinery award.
“This year is going to be a bit different,” Ms Rose said. “Sharon Lenton from Thoroughbred Events Australia will be hosting our fashions event.
“New to Walcha Cup is our registration of fashions, so if you would like to enter you need to register. We won’t have spotters this year, you can enter into as many categories as you like. Judges are looking for the best in that category, but on trend or classical, you have to enter.
“We see a range of mixed fashion every year, from on trend, to classic, to colorful and feminine. All our ladies and gentlemen get dressed up, it’s a day of the year that people look forward to and prepare well in advance.
“The Walcha Cup is good old fashioned country racing at its best,” Ms Rose said. “Jim Nivison, President of the Walcha Jockey Club has been doing a great job of this annual race meet year after year and it is a very family-orientated and fun day. It’s the place to be on the second week in February every year.”
