Local bowler Mick Steep teamed up with two of his Terrigal mates to win the annual John Oxley Triples Bowls Tournament held at the Walcha Bowling Club last weekend.

They survived a countback with runners-up Armidale City’s Victor Ng, Brad White and Claude McFadden after both teams finished with four wins and 38 ends each.
Terrigal ended up scoring 89 points to Armidale’s 74 which clinched the title for them.
Third place went to Wauchope – Col Parkes Bill Brooker and his son Glen, who also won four games including 35 ends.
Best Walcha team was Ian Bird, Steve Goodwin and his son Kyle, who managed three wins, 47 ends to run sixth.
A total of 16 teams played in the competition representing Walcha, Armidale, Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Stuarts Point, Terrigal and Comboyne.
Last Monday, 14 teams competed in the mixed pairs where Brian Lockyer and his partner Robyn Larkin survived a countback with runners-up Noel and Janet Goodwin after both registered two wins and 20 ends.
The winners scored 40 points to sneak home by three points.
Third place went to last year’s winners, Allan Goodwin and Joy McDeen, with two wins, 18 ends, 44 points on countback from Dion McCudden and Melissa Murray from Comboyne on two wins, 18 ends, 34 points.
