“Paula put a lot of work into this exhibition which has been inspired by two landscape excursions,” said Mrs McLaren.
‘Interviews with landscape’ consists of 34 paintings based mainly on two outdoor experiences Paula had this year. The first was a helicopter trip into the gorge country around Walcha with her family and the second was a workshop conducted by fellow Walcha artist Ross Laurie and Sydney artist Idris Murphy at Fowlers Gap, Broken Hill.
“The style of work she created at Fowlers Gap is more abstract landscape, and she has also switched from working in pastels to oil paint,” Mrs McLaren said.
Ross Laurie opened the exhibition and said he felt her work had gained a certain confidence.
“Another thing about Paula is that she likes to use a lot of pink and if she is unsure of what to do she will add more pink,” he joked.
Paula’s works are known for her bold use of colour and accentuated and deliberate lines and marks to form landscapes and compositions.
“My art is a continuous journey of development. I look deep into a landscape and extract the subtleties and connotations that lie within. My aim is to evoke emotion and a sense of place through movement, form, depth and colour,” Mrs Jenkins said.
