Community sharps are needles, syringes, pen needles and similar equipment used outside medical services.
“Many people rely on using needles and syringes to maintain their health or the health of their animals,” said Walcha Council Waste senior manager Tess Dawson.
“Please dispose of your community sharps in the new sharps bin at the Waste Depot to help keep our community and the environment safe.”
Community sharps should never be disposed of :
- in household waste or recycling bins because of the high risk of injury to workers and plastic syringes are not recyclable;
- in public litter bins;
- by flushing down toilets and drains; or
- by discarding into the environment.
For further information please contact Council on 6774 2515 and if you’re travelling outside Walcha go to www.safesharps.org.au for the location of the nearest community sharps disposal bin.
