Youth Frontiers is a state-wide mentoring program that encourages young people in Years 8 and 9 to use their creativity, passion and determination to make a positive difference in their local community.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson congratulated Thomas and said the Youth Frontiers program helps unlock the potential of young people.

“Youth Frontiers encourages young people to think outside the box, try different ideas and have the courage to speak up for what they believe in.

“Thomas Micallef from Walcha Central School was in Parliament today to receive his award in the Community Harmony section,” Mr Anderson said. 

“His project aims to create a partnership between the youth and elderly residents of Walcha. He is to be congratulated for his passion on genuinely trying to help elderly residents.”

Mr Anderson said Youth Frontiers is one of the largest mentoring programs in the entire country.

“Additional funding will ensure another 1,200 young people across the State will benefit from this valuable program each year.”

Since 2015, Youth Frontiers has connected around 3,500 young people with their communities through quality mentoring.

There are eight categories for the community project including Community Harmony, Youth Mental Health, Engaging in Sport, Empowering Young Women, The Centenary of ANZAC, Environment and Conservation, Group Projects, and a General category.
