Roos spokesman AJ Cross said the “well-attended” meeting was held this week in response to “a few rumours” about the club applying to join Group 19’s new second division next season.
Cross said the club had been “concerned” about Group 4’s draw for its new reserve-grade competition but they had now examined the draw and were satisfied with it.
Walcha will play in Group 4’s new reserve-grade competition next year, after the successful Second Division they had featured in was scrapped at the end of last season as part of a major Group 4 revamp.
Cross said: “There were a few rumours that we might be going to Group 19’s second division or applying to go there. It was unanimous last night [Wednesday] that we stay in Group 4 and give it a go next year.”
Cross said the club was looking for coaches for their reserve grade and ladies league tag sides, and were prepared to hire out-of-town talent. Applications close on January 18.
Cross said the Roos needed at least 25 players to field a reserve-grade side and he was confident that would be achieved. “We’ve got an expression-of-interest Christmas party next Tuesday afternoon at the bowling club,” he said.
“We’ll try and get as many players there for both teams, basically, to let us know if they’re keen to be running around next year.”
Cross said the healthy number of players who attended this week’s meeting was a good sign.
