The 2008 and 2011 Walcha Cricketer of the Year smacked 16 boundaries on his way to the same amount of runs that Swamp defeated Colts by.
Round Swamp are the 2017-18 Minor Premiers despite one round remaining in the competition. It is the 22nd time the Swampies have won the Yalgoo Shield since 1938. They also won the Turton Cup earlier in the season and are now in line to take out their sixth hat trick of major trophies since 1970.
A five-wicket haul by Swamp medium pacer Liam Brennan helped his team dismiss Colts for 156 runs. “Nugget” captured 5/10 in the space of 18 delivers before finishing with 5/43 off 7.2 overs his first “Fivefa” in senior cricket.
Now the minor premiership has been decided, the race is on to see who will play Swamp in the major semi-final the weekend after the Walcha Races. Colts and Uralla are both on 52 competition points with second places to be decided after Colts take on Kentucky at the Park and Swamp do battle with Uralla at John Oxley Sportsground on February 3 in the final competition round.

The Walcha Flippers will be conducting a swim clinic here this Sunday, January 28 from 9am to 12 noon. The clinic is open to all swimming club members who are swimming 50 metre events, Turtles though to Sharks. James Harwood and his “Harwood Swimming” team will be running the session. The ony cost is pool entry if you are not a season ticket holder. Please let club president Angus Warden know immediately if you are interested in attending.
Congratulations to Antlers Rest resident Sam Abraham on being selected in the Newcastle Knights S.G. Ball Squad. Sam had been invited to take part in the summer training program and is now contracted to the Knights for the 2018 season.
Walcha junior cricketer Ben Hall was in the Armidale District U/12 rep team that competed in the state championships at Lismore last week. According to dad Nick, the young bloke clocked up 176 overs of cricket from six games during the week and then came home to field for another 40 overs for Colts against Round Swamp on Saturday. One of Ben’s opponents when Armidale played Manly was Jack Slater, son of former Aussie opener Michael Slater.

Walcha News Cup cricket leaders Round Swamp belted second-placed Colts by 109 runs at John Oxley Sportsground last Saturday on the back of a century to lefthander Kyle Goodwin and a five-wicket haul by medium pacer Liam Brennan.
Batting first Swamp amassed a total of 4/265 off 40 overs of which Goodwin made 109 opener Ben France 49 and Luke Wellings 49. Thor Crombie, Ed Blomfield, Sam Martin and Ben Hall took one wicket each.
A total of 41 sundries including 29 wides didn’t help the Colts cause and either did losing opener Josh Wellings runout by Thomas Boyd for a duck.
Colts were bundled out in their 30th over for 15 after Crombie top scored with 58 and opener Ed Blomfield contributed 58.
They were both dismissed by Brennan who finished with 5/43 off 7.2 overs while wellings opener Lee Harrison and Goodwin snared one victim each.
In the other game at the Park, Uralla cruised around Kentucky by eight wickets after past their modest 58 run assignment in less than 12 overs. Batting at number four Dave Woodley top scored for Kentucky with 22. Daniel Boyd was next best with nine.
Man of the match Cameron Wood took 4/11 and then made an unbeaten 27 runs. Opener Sam Townsend captured 2/16.
Points score: Swamp 58, Colts and Uralla 52, Kentucky 36.
