With the presitigious Silver Stirrups and Junior Classic Carnival in Albury three weeks away, Walcha Polocrosse president Tony Donnelly said their two-day tournament could attract some interstate teams looking for a hit out.
“We normally get a pretty good roll-up, being the first carnival before [Junior Classic and Silver Stirrup major carnival in] Albury in a few weeks there is talk of a few Queenslanders wanting to come down and have a run too,” he said.
“Hopefully they will turn up and we will have a real good carnival.”
Last weekend Walcha took teams to the Guyra club’s carnival and Donnelly said there was plenty of interest for this weekend’s competition.
“It is all looking good, everyone we spoke to at Guyra said they were coming and I think they had 32 teams at Guyra,” he said.
“I am hoping it will be a big carnival.”
Donnelly and his B grade team with John Donnelly, Matt Ireland, Simon Wall, Jodie Provost and Dan Daley finished the Guyra carnival as runners-up with Ireland collecting the individual prize for best number two.
Young rider Marlee Wall picked up the award for best overall sub-junior for the weekend.
