The moving service was conducted entirely by student leaders and the ‘Last Post’ was played by Walcha Anglican minister Ben France.
The catafalque party stood guard over a pine sapling grown from a seed taken from Gallipoli.
“We had the sapling donated to us three years ago and we decided to do our service around the pine today,” WSC teacher Ben Ussher told the Walcha News before the service began.
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson is encouraging local communities to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have defended our nation this Anzac Day, 25 April.
“Anzac Day is a day of remembrance. It is the day for the general public to pay their respects to current and former defence personnel who have served our country,” Mr Anderson said.
The Walcha RSL Sub Branch will conduct two Anzac Services in Memorial Park. The dawn service will commence at 6am and the main service at 11am.
