There is no greater commemorative day than Anzac Day. Everyone has their own memories and thoughts that are bought to the fore today, most of them still painful and raw. Sheree and I spent some time at the Bobby Jack Festival at the Walcha Showground and really enjoyed the experience. For any group to have the vision and nerve to organise and commit to any type of festival deserves credit. Festivals can be hard work with weather and expectant crowds unknown until the day. Everyone we spoke to enjoyed the experience with the children's activities certainly being a hit. There was a great variety of music (genres)to suit most tastes and talk of another festival next year can only bring good things for Walcha.
The Cancer Council, including some very active local volunteer members held a very successful Relay For Life on Saturday. Over 200 people walked for 12 hours to raise funds to aid in the battle against this disease and supply support to sufferers and family. A day like this is always filled with mixed emotions, but the positive vibe and hope that a day like this engenders is always uplifting. The main take away message for me was the amount of services available to those that require them.
The new footbridge to complement the ‘crocodile bridge’ on the levee walking track will give a much safer and accessible crossing for many walkers and limpers. The old bridge had its problems for some people and will remain for the more adventurous.
