THERE was a whisper that Roos fullback Steve Eveleigh may have played his last game for the Walcha Rugby League Club last Saturday. If that is the case, “Dizzy” went out with his usual non-stop performance which included a try late in the match against Warialda.

ROOS players and supporters hope Steven hasn’t called it a day and would love to see him again this Saturday against Bingara at the Park. As was mentioned to “Dizzy” last Saturday, “you are a long time retired”.
ON the subject of the Roos, they welcomed the return of former captain-coach Troy Yarnold against the “Wombats” which assisted with team direction around the paddock. Despite the blown-out scoreline, there were plenty of big defensive hits by the Roos which prompted Warialda coach Matt Cleal to suggest his players knew they had been in a game.
WHAT a performance by Jillaroos player Katelyn Smith who scored three tries in the space of 10 minutes during the second half against Warialda last Saturday. Katelyn would admit she didn’t get off to the best of starts during the opening stanza when she threw a couple of intercept passes, but didn’t she come home with a wet sail from then on!
This time around it was Kyle and 'Bazza' who drew three shots to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. They will play the winner of the other semi-final...
FOR her efforts, Katelyn received three group B&F from the referee, three club B&F points and was judged players’ player by her teammates. Not a bad day out, Katelyn.
Bowls nail-biter
TALK about a cliffhanger in the 2018 Bowls Pairs Championships final last Saturday when Kyle Goodwin and Barry Kliendienst took on Steve Goodwin and Gordie Bird over 21 ends. With one end remaining, Kyle and Barry led 22-20 before Normie and Gordie drew three shots to hit the front, but it wasn’t over yet.
ENTER Kyle, who drove his bowl into the head, collected the jack and sent it out of bounds, meaning the end had to be replayed. This time around it was Kyle and “Bazza” who drew three shots to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. They will play the winner of the other semi-final where Tony Asmus and Gordon Mitchie take on Garth Clare and Denis Makeham.
Golfing shots
LAST Sunday, golf club captain Willy Brennan and Miles Archdale won a BAM event with 70 stableford points. During presentations, Willy did make mention that if president Allan Green and his foursomes partner from the previous week Anthony Smith had played together last Sunday they would have taken the field with 84 points.
THE Walcha Rams will return to the paddock this Saturday when they travel to Quirindi to take on the Lions in both grades. The following Saturday, the Rams return home to do battle with Moree which is also sponsors’ lunch day.
Jillaroos news
Walcha continued their winning streak last Saturday when they defeated Warialda 32-0 in their Group 19 Second Division Ladies League Tag match played here at the Park.
Spectators had barely settled into their seats when Shae Patridge danced her way over under the posts after just two minutes.
Skipper Robyn Broadbent converted and then three minutes later Chloe Carter touched down in the canteen corner to give the Jillaroos a 10-0 which they held until half-time.
The second half started with a sensational take from the kickoff by Marissa Sheelah, but it was then 10 minutes before Katelyn Smith made a good run before offloading to Amy Withers who then returned a pass to Smith for a 50 metre run to score under the sticks.
Another two long range tries to player of the match Smith and two conversions to Broadbent gave the home side a 28-0 advantage with five minutes remaining in the game.
Right on full-time, Broadbent scored in the Mill Hole corner and finalised the scoring.
Speedster Jordyn Hoy made a welcome return after her bowling club stage incident a few week ago.
Best and Fairest Points Group: Katelyn Smith 3, Shae Patridge 2, Club Katelyn Smith 3, Lucy Withers 2, Marissa Sheelah 1. Players’ Player was won by Katelyn Smith.
This Saturday, both grades will be played here as Walcha hosts Bingara at the Park.
