WHEN Central North didn’t enter a team in that competition, Ed and Pat played for the Mid-North Coast Axemen where they did enough to catch the selector’s eye. Best of luck to both players when the 37-man squad is trimmed down after the next training camp.
Rams roll Lions
THE Rams gave the Quirindi Lions a bit of a hurry up when they rolled them 92-12 last Saturday at Quirindi. Eight Rams crossed for tries including a hat-trick to Ed and a brace to Pat, while winger Harry Locke registered three tries of his own. This Saturday, the Rams host Moree here at the Park which also doubles as Sponsors’ Day.
Roos on fire
LAST Saturday, the Jillaroos continued on their winning way when they proved too strong for Barraba 42-0 at the Park. Co-captain Robyn Broadbent was up to her usual tricks with the highlight an 80 metre individual try. Rob also landed four goals before being rewarded for her efforts with both three group and three club best and fairest points.
WITH one game remaining in the opening round, Uralla lead the ladies league tag competition on 10 points followed by Walch 8, Warialda 6, Guyra 5, Tenterfield and Ashford 4 with Bingara on the bottom of the table on 3 points.
ALTHOUGH the final scoreline didn’t favour the Roos last Saturday, it wasn’t as if the players weren’t having a go. Individually, the boys are putting in, it is just teamwork at times is letting them down. Anyway, the main thing is the players are out there flying the green and gold colours, which is much better than the alternative.

Top day on the green
NO less than 17 golfers represented the Walcha club at the Barraba Open last Sunday where all players finished square with the card or better. Dynamic “Woolbrook” duo Andrew Crawford and Anthony Uren won the overall nett event with +10, while the front nine holes went to Col Berry and John Mann, who also piloted his tee shot on the third hole to within 18 inches of the hole to win the nearest-the-pin.
NOT far off the pace at Barraba were Steph Sweeney and John McCormack on +7, along with Miles Archdale and Angus McDoull on +6. A trio of teams – Neil Dark and Barry Hoad, Owen Presnell and Mal Ballard, Will Brennan and Allan Green – all carded +5, Don Brooks and Anthony Smith racked up +3, while Liam Brennan and Peter Norbury finished square.
Jillaroos
WALCHA defeated Bingara in their Group 19 second division ladies league tag match at the Park last Saturday to the tune of 42-0.
The Jillaroos players held a 24-0 advantage over Bingara at half-time.
Spectators had barely made themselves comfortable when co-captain Robyn Broadbent managed to score a great individual try from inside her own 22 metre line and then added the extras from in front.
In the space of just five minutes midway through the opening stanza, speedster Shae Partridge weaved her way over the line for two tries which Broadbent then converted.
Just before the half-time oranges, Katelyn Smith cruised over from 50 metres out and when Broadbent raised the flags, the Jillaroos led 24-0.
Early in the second session, Jordyn Hoy sped over for one of her trademark tries and then, just before the final hooter, touched down for her second.
In between time, Walcha’s talented Withers sisters Amy and Lucy both managed to score tries.
With one game remaining in the first round, the Jillaroos are in outright second position on eight points, just two points behind leaders Uralla.
This Saturday, the Jillaroos girls will face Tenterfield at Tenterfield before having the following weekend off due to the bye.
Best and fairest points: Group 3 – Robyn Broadbent, 2 Jordie Hoy, 1 Shae Partridge. Club – 3 Robyn Broadbent, 2 Shae Partridge, 1 Lucy Withers. Players’ player also went to Shae Partridge.
