VETERAN Walcha shooter John Lisle shot the lights out at a Glen Innes clay target shoot earlier in the month when he scored a maximum 150 after hitting every target he aimed for on the day. The Down the Line competition included double barrel, single barrel, points score and continental where the targets are fired from the trap at random heights.

ACCORDING to his travelling companion and fellow competitor Bill Fletcher, the veteran backed up in Tamworth the following day where he missed just three shots during that shoot. John kept a clean slate during the single target part of the program then hit 37 out of 40 in the double rise. That’s really not a bad weekend’s work, John.
Rams to face Devils
WALCHA held a 26-12 advantage in their Central North Rugby fixture against Barraba/ Gwydir when they enjoyed their half-time break at Barraba last Saturday but unfortunately for the red and white Rams, they couldn’t carry on with it in the second session. This Saturday, the Rams head to Gunnedah where they take on the Red Devils.
THE big news in rugby in Central North was Quirindi opening their 2018 account at the expense of Scone 15-14 last Saturday when the Lions scored the match winner after the bell. After six rounds this season, Pirates remain undefeated on 30 points followed by Moree 24, Barraba/Gwydir 22, Narrabri 22, Gunnedah 19, Walcha 17, Scone 12, Inverell 7, and Quirindi 4.
Walcha opened their account last weekend with two points for the bye and hopefully from now on it is upwards and onwards.
League back in Walcha
THERE was no local rugby league last weekend due to byes in the Group 19 Second Division and Ladies League Tag Competitions for the Roos and Jillaroos. Walcha will host Uralla this Sunday at the Park, with the Jillaroos kicking off all the day’s action from 1pm.
THOSE games will mark the start of the second round of the competition when the Jillaroos find out where they are at this season after they take on the undefeated Ladies League Tag leaders. The only time Walcha have tasted defeat in 2018 was when they went down to Uralla in round one. Go gettum, girls.
AFTER one full round, Uralla lead the competition on 14 points followed by Walcha 12, Warialda 8, Bingara 7, Ashford 6, Guyra 5 and Tenterfield 4.
THE Roos might have their hands full when they tackle the Tigers this Sunday with Uralla coming off a 22-20 win over the previously undefeated Tenterfield last Saturday. Walcha opened their account last weekend with two points for the bye and hopefully from now on it is upwards and onwards. Go the mighty Roos!.
AFTER one complete round of the Group 19 Second Division competition, the top four teams are starting to sneak away from the other three sides, with Tenterfield leading the point score ladder on 12 points. Three teams – Warialda, Uralla and Guyra – are all on 10 points, while Ashford, Bingara and Walcha have some work in front of them to get ahead.
Footy Fans on the green
CONGRATULATIONS to the Dragons bowls team consisting of Mick Bullen, his son Troy and John Hine in taking out the Footy Fans triples event last Saturday. The trio rattled up the biggest winning margin of 28-4 to claim the title to pip runners-up the Cowboys - Chadin Hawkins, Brian Goodwin and Allan Goodwin – by a few shots.
THE Footy Fans runners-up, Chadin, “Bun” and “Grassy”, certainly handed out a lesson to the composite Manly Bears or Norths Sea Eagles team of Deon Lawrence, Gerry Moran and A.J. Cross, especially early in the contest when they led 14-1 after just five ends.
OUR team did pick up a few shots before the 14th and final end, but were demolished by a far better outfit on the day.
