The Tamworth-born heavy diesel mechanic has set his sights on National’s MP Kevin Anderson’s seat.
“We are a credible, conservative alternative to the National Party, and if we don’t win it I can guarantee we will make it marginal.
“There’s not a lot of support for The Nationals, if I was Kevin I would be worried.
“For me, the country bush divide has never been so big – we haven’t even touched on the drought and what’s happening there is unacceptable, offering low interest loans is just putting farmers further into debt.”
With a focus on the three ‘f’s – subsidies for feed, fodder and freight, Mr Bacon said his party promises to commit to pulling a better deal for farmers.
Second on the list is improvements to roads, Mr Bacon visited Werris Creek on Saturday with his 700 signature strong petition to fix Werris Creek Road.
Inspired to take up the course after a near-miss accident himself, Mr Bacon said Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson isn’t doing enough as Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Roads.
However, Mr Anderson has been in discussions with Tamworth Regional Council and Roads and Maritime Services about the state of the road – that has seen a number of fatalities.

Mr Bacon said he’s prepared to put in “110 per cent” for the electorate.
“I guess I’m one of those people that fairly quickly realised the only thing holding you back is yourself,” he said.
“I see this as an opportunity not everyone gets – I’m doing it for my kids too, so they have a good role model to look up to.”
“If we win, for the electorate it’s good, but even if we make it marginal the government will start to spend money here.”
Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party MLC Robert Brown announced Mr Bacon’s candidacy on Saturday in Werris Creek.
