THREE out of four wasn’t too bad last weekend when the Walcha Rams beat Pirates in both grades at Tamworth on Saturday and the Jillaroos won their Ladies League Tag match against Tenterfield here at the Park. Unfortunately the Roos couldn’t make it a clean sweep but went within 12 seconds of clinching a draw.

WELL done to the Rams who have moved up into equal fourth position on the Central North Points score ladder with Narrabri. Following back-to-back losses Pirates have been relegated into second spot on the ladder behind Moree something foreign to the reigning premiers in the past few seasons.
BAD luck to the Roos who hit the lead early in the second half only to be run down in the shadows of the finishing post for the second time in eight days.
THE Jillaroos will play arch-rivals and competition leader Uralla in the Group 19 Second Division Ladies League Tag major semi final as they will be seven points clear of third placed Bingara after this weekend’s round with only three rounds remaining after that.
NORTHERN Tablelands sporting journalist Ellen Dunger played her best game of the season for the Jillaroos after joining the club earlier in the year and Bonnie Smith also performed well.
BEST of luck to the Rams this Saturday when they take on Quirindi here at the Park which will also be ‘Ladies Day’ where the girls should be pampered for at least one game of the year. Just remember girls moderation is the key, especially if you choose champagne.
VETERAN local athlete Taddy Macfarlane competed in the Gold Coast half marathon over 21 kilometres recently where 10,000 runners started and 8,791 finished.
Taddy averaged 5 minutes 42 seconds per kilometre to finish 3,704th overall and fifth in his age group (70 to 74 years), where he is at the older end of that division.
Well done Taddy.
Roos Report
Walcha were defeated by Tenterfield 20-16 in their Group 19 Second Division clash here last Saturday after he Tigers scored a late try with just 12 seconds remaining on the clock to win the match.
Scores were locked up at 16 all during the latter stages of the game before the visitors iced their cake as the full time siren sounded.
Roos hooker Jack McAlister put the homeside on the scoreboard after he plunged over from dummyhalf in the Old Ambulance Station corner.
Minutes later Centre Mitch Eveleigh was bundled into touch in the kiosk corner just short of the tryline before Tenterfield responded midway through the opening session with a converted try.
The Tigers shot to a 10-4 lead after 23 minutes when they scored an unconverted try before Eveleigh powered his way over to reduce the deficit to 10-8 which remained that way until Oranges were taken.
Ten minutes into the second session the Roos received a penalty and after some change of angles in attack Eveleigh forced his way through the defence to notch up his second touchdown.
Centre Dean Kelly converted the try and then later kicked a penalty goal while the Tigers scored a converted try to tie up the scores at 16 all.
Well inside the final minute Tenterfield played the same “Get out of Jail” card Bingara played the previous Saturday and once again the Roos suffered an agonizing loss.
Walcha have a bye this weekend then play Uralla here at home before travelling to Guyra for their final game of 2018.

Six minutes into the match the Jillaroos opened the scoring when Bonnie Brown scored a try in a handy position for Robyn Broadbent to convert.
Midway through the first half Tenterfield responded with an unconverted try which turned out to be the visitors only points.
A tricky grubber kick from the restart saw the hosts regain possession and within the following set Bec Hoy touched down to give them a 10-4 advantage which they held to half time.
Two minutes into the second session Broadbent dummied her way through the defence before she linked up with Brown who cruised over for her second try.
The Jillaroos went further ahead shortly after when Rachel Green touched down and Broadbent converted to extend the lead to 22-4.
Midway through the second stanza Hoy raced away for her second try and then as the full time siren was about to sound Broadbent gathered in a clever grubber kick from Bonnie Smith to touch down.
