On Saturday there was a solid turn up at the grounds to support the Rams, celebrate ladies day and raise money for Ovarian Cancer Australia.

We took on Quirindi at home which unfortunately meant only one game but that didn’t deter the crowds and despite being in Sydney (to welcome our newest Ram lamb) Henry King organized some fantastic charity Jerseys for the day, so Walcha represented in teal and white (the colours for Ovarian Cancer).
The Rams got off to a quick start within a minute crossing the line. Quirindi swiftly replied with a field goal, their last score for some time as Walcha continued to pile on the points. At half time there was a ladies kicking comp courtesy of JT Fossey Tamworth that saw Robyn Broadbent and Ell McNaught take the prize (sorry for those ladies that didn’t get a kick in with time not on our side). Richard Young got our bonus point all for himself, crossing the line 4 times, with many of the other boys getting a try or two (apart from Eddy Cordingley!).
There were lots of impressive sideline conversions by Simon Newton and Charlie Keen that kept our points adding up and the crowds entertained. Speaking to Quirindi’s spirit they didn’t give up throughout and bulldozed over at the very end for a try, which they converted. I would love to tell you more about the actual game, but the ladies day festivities got in the way and to be honest I got chatting. The final score was 97 to 10 to the Rams. 1 point went to Patty Keen, 2 points to Sione Kamoto, 3 points to Michael Whitton and players’ player was shared between Patty and Harry Locke.
The day didn’t finish there with celebrations going late into the night and people really digging deep to support the charity with the silent auction of jerseys and wood raffle showing the undeniable fabulous, generous nature of our club and community. All up, our club was able to donate $9666 to Ovarian Cancer Australia. We danced the night away, dressed in ridiculous Christmas in July getup and made the most of free champagne from earlier in the day. Thankyou to all those people who helped make the day a success, with too many to thank individually.
Next weekend we are away playing against Moree which will undoubtedly be a tough contest as they currently sit first on the table in first grade and second in Reggies.
