The Rams converted a 20-5 half-time lead to a 44-12 win with a flurry of points late in the game.
Jacob Sherrin snared a double while Henry King, Simon Newton, Ed Cordingley and Dom Bower all crossed for five-pointers.
While the Rams dominated on the scoreboard, it was a patchy performance in places.
“Once we wore them [Gunnedah] down they started playing some good football,” Rams coach Barry Hoy said.
“They would get going, make a silly mistake and give away a dumb penalty but once they got into their groove it was [right].”
The home side gifted Gunnedah possession early in the second-half before wearing them down to stretch their lead and take the win.
“We struggled a bit early with the breakdown, turned a lot of ball over so we just had to clean the breakdown up and then we were able to use it a bit,” Hoy said.
“We were standing around watching and waiting for someone else to do it, not doing it ourselves so there will be a bit of work on that this week at training to make sure they get up and clean it out.
“We probably panicked a bit on occasions when we were coming out of our own 22.
“We needed to trust the blokes behind us, secure it and keep going rather than trying to throw the miracle pass.”

Rather than being disappointed with his team’s performance, Gunnedah coach Jason Warea was quick to credit his opponents.
“Walcha are a good team, you know how they are going to play but they are not easy to stop,” he said.
“I think we contained them for 50 minutes of the game, had to make a few changes there but then they got us where we are usually strong which is in the scrum and the line out.
“You have one of the best attacking backlines in the game so our midfield defence was excellent.
“Sometimes you can only hold them out for so long though.
“All the best to Walcha, I think they are the team to beat.”
