Council is seeking public input into the naming of the Walcha Oval and believes it should be renamed to reflect the contribution made to Walcha by a past sportsperson who has represented their state or country at a high level. Peter Fenwicke and Andrew Laurie are the two suggested names for the Walcha sporting oval.

As my brother Peter died 31 years ago , and we have since been fortunate to have a lot of new people come to Walcha , I thought I would take this opportunity to share some of Peter’s sporting achievements.
Apart from captaining the Walcha Rams and the Wallabies for Rugby Union, he was a Country Selector from 1984 until 1986. He coached the Country Team the following season just before he died from cancer. Peter was also Walcha Golf Champion 1968 and 1969, and was also an A grade tennis player. A former Captain of the NSW Country Cricket Team, Peter was also a former President of the Walcha Show Society.
