BAD luck to the Walcha Rams team that were defeated by Pirates in the 2018 Central North Rugby grand final last Saturday in Tamworth. The boys didn’t play as well as they did leading up to the premiership decider but congratulations on a successful season anyway.

THE Walcha Junior Rams U/8s, 10s and 12s have been invited to play a curtain-raiser at Bellevue Oval in Armidale this Saturday prior to the County Eagles taking on the Canberra Vikings. Good luck to all those players participating.
ST Patricks schoolboy Harry Partridge was a member of the Polding representative squad that recently played in the NSW PSSA Primary Rugby Championships at Coffs Harbour. Polding is selected from the northern part of the state and finished sixth out of the 13 teams that played in the tournament.
POLDING won two of their five games with their best result 54-7 against Sydney South West, and they also defeated Western 45-0. Harry played prop and didn’t get many chances to run with the ball, but was more involved with rucking and mauling.
CO-CAPTAIN Robyn Broadbent added the Jillaroos best and fairest award to her Group 19 best and fairest trophy she won a few weeks ago when the Walcha Rugby League Club held their presentations last Saturday night at the bowling club. Rachel Green, Lucy Withers and Ellen Dunger also received trophies when the Jillaroo prizes were handed out.
The way games have been going lately, it would be anyone’s guess who will win the 'Big One', but there is going to be plenty of interest from now on.
IT was a family affair when Robyn’s brother Andrew collected the Roos best and fairest award for the season, just ahead of Troy Yarnold, Dean Kelly and Ben Green. Well done to the other Roos who collected trophies – Harry King, Alex Bruce and Troy Yarnold.
LONG-time waterboy, strapper and first-aider Peter Martin was rewarded for his efforts throughout the season when he received the Neville “Malta” Morris Memorial Clubman of the Year trophy. Good on ya, “Boogee”.
FOR the first time in as long as I can remember, I wasn’t able to attend presentation night due to golfing commitments at Narromine last weekend. Hopefully, everyone who did attend had a good night, including the players and officials who chose to lose their locks for charity.
NOW local footy is done and dusted, it is just about time to clean the cobwebs off the cricket and touch football gear for another season. No doubt annual general meetings will soon be on the agenda for both sports.
THE main rugby league competition still has two weeks left to go, with the top four teams on the competition ladder remaining in the hunt for the main prize. The way games have been going lately, it would be anyone’s guess who will win the “Big One”, but there is going to be plenty of interest from now on.
BEST of luck to 15-year-old horse rider Thomas Donnelly when he travels to Perth with his father Tony and his two horses “Bundy” and “Rocko” to compete in the National Polocrosse Championships at the Perth Equestrian Centre early in October. Thomas was selected in a team of eighty riders to represent New South Wales in the mixed junior competition.
