CONGRATULATIONS to Walcha’s newest state champions Kyle Goodwin and Kenneth “Fred” Cameron after the Dynamic Duo won the State President’s Pairs at Ettalong last week. Kyle and Fred defeated Ourimbah 25-17 in the final after rounding up Greenlees Park, Concord in the semi-final.

THE boys’ hardest game was against Cardiff where they snuck home 21-20 after leading 21-9 at one stage. Fred reckons it went right down to the wire, but they were fortunate enough to get the win.
League champs
A BIG pat on the back to the rugby league players and supporters who had their locks shaved off for charity last Saturday night following the annual club presentations.
LEADING the way was Jillaroos playmaker Ruth France, who raised nearly $2700 for the Mark Hughes Foundation (Beanies for Brain Cancer) and Compassion. Good on ya, Ruth, and all the others – club president Michael Aspinall and his son Tim, group 19 referee Alex Ritchie, Brandon Eckford, Dean Kelly, Alex Bruce, Jack McAlister, Andrew Kelly and Josh Gollan.
In search of the top pie...
SOME sporting trips away have sometimes turned into a bit of a pub crawl, but last Friday’s trip to narromine to play golf was different again. This time it was a bakery crawl. After stopping at the Coolah pie shop, Steph Sweeney suggested the pies were better at Dunedoo just down the road.
AFTER stopping at Dunedoo for another pie, Steph, Wayne Brennan and myself were just about to hit the track when Brenno pointed out there was another pie shop down the street. That is when the “Golden-Haired Wonder Child” told us the other pie maker was the best.
Some council employees will be happy to find out the 'King of Scare' Steph Sweeney, who loves nothing more than to frighten someone at every opportunity, got some of his own back down at Narromine.
WELL, there was no way we were going to stop for another pie, but we did get to sample one on the way home on Monday along with Jack O’Hara who we had picked up along the way. Couldn’t fault the curry pie.
King of scare
SOME council employees will be happy to find out the “King of Scare” Steph Sweeney, who loves nothing more than to frighten someone at every opportunity, got some of his own back down at Narromine. During the night, Stevie got up for a bathroom break and while he was there, his room-mate “Brenno” hid outside the door and then scared the living daylights (or nightlights) out of him when he wandered out, to the point where clutching his chest came into play.
Yesterday’s news
LAST week, Gary “Bondi” Brennan was reading Wednesday’s paper when he started viewing stories he had read earlier in the week on Monday. Thinking he had been sold the wrong paper, Gary packed up the paper and went back to the newsagency to sort the problem out.
ON arrival, "Bondi” reckoned he had the wrong paper but after an investigation, what had happened was Gary had opened up Wednesday’s paper and then placed it on top of Monday’s paper hence the old stories appearing when he reached the bottom pages. Gary’s good mate Mark Hogan thought it was certainly worth a mention.
Luck of the draw
THE Walcha council run a footy-tipping competition where the players don’t select any teams, they have a different team picked for them each week. Whatever points that team scores is what you get. The winner on 614 points was purchasing officer Ron Wicks, while rural roads supervisor Wayne Brennan snared the wooden spoon an incredible 200 points behind him on 410.
SECOND place in the “Luck of the Draw” competition was Ron Partridge on 599, while Bernardo Lynch finished third on 585, just two point off Lawrence “Joey” Hunt on 583.
Back in the day...
WHILE in IGA the other day, Roos president Michael Aspinall saw a headline in a newspaper where a suggestion was made about mobile phones being banned at school. When “Aspro” mentioned it to shop attendant Taylor Carter, she replied that it wouldn’t be much good and that she couldn’t do without hers.
WHEN “Aspro” carried the conversation on, saying he had never had one when he was at school, Taylor came back with “yeah, but you were allowed to have walkmans back then”. Apparently, Tash Foster was standing close by and burst into fits of laughter at the time thinking it was extremely humourous.
Rams’ last event
THE Walcha Rams will wrap up their season tomorrow night at their clubhouse where former Wallaby and Brumbies player James Holbeck will be the official guest. By all accounts, a few of the boys were a bit fatigued early in the week after a party that went through the night following the grand final last Saturday. Best of luck to all the players.
