CRICKET association president Ed Blomfield agreed to continue as head honcho for a ninth term when he was re-elected at the recent AGM. Secretary Dan Hunt has commenced his fourth term, Luke Wellings stays on as treasurer for a seventh time while A. J. Cross remains publicity officer and recording secretary for a 34th season.
PLAYING numbers have been a concern over the past few years, prompting a decision to allow players to line up with any of the four teams nominated throughout the competition rounds. Players are only permitted to play with their nominated team when the semi-final series commences. All games played throughout the season go towards finals qualifications.
CALLING all junior cricketers interested in playing this season after the school holidays finish. Get in early to avoid the disappointment of missing out.

CONGRATULATIONS to the 2018 Walcha basketball champions Kings (mens) and Bandits (womens) who got the job done a couple of weeks ago. Good to see my old teammate Deon Lawrence still winning premierships. Well done also to respective runners-up Crocs and Pacifika.
THE men’s decider was a nail-biting affair, with Crocs leading 23-22 at half-time and then, with 20 seconds left on the clock, they trailed 36-35 but still had one last chance to score. They didn’t, and Kings snuck home.
KINGS youngster Jake Murray was judged to be most improved player in the men’s division while Chloe Swanton, who played with Untouchables, collected the most improved player in the women’s division. Good on ya, guys.
LOCAL athlete Nick Makeham saved his best to last when he won the open 400m event at the recent Athletic Association of Great Public Schools Championships at Homebush. The TAS athletics captain braced the finish tape in a time of 50.59 seconds, nearly a second and a half faster than his previous best.
UNFORTUNATELY, just after crossing the finish line, Nick crashed to the ground dislocating his shoulder when his legs gave way under him. Still not a bad way to wrap up your school athletics career with a gold medal, Nick.
ANOTHER local athlete, Joe Kermode, was a member of TAS squad of 13 that competed at the championships, finishing fifth in the 15 years 400m event. Take a peek in What’s the Goss for a bit more information on Joe.
EIGHT Walcha golfers competed in the Nundle Veterans Open last Friday where Jack O’Hara took out Division 3 with 39 stableford points. Sweepstakes went to Will Brennan 37, Owen Presnell 36, Col Berry 34, while Wayne Brennan 33, Peter Norbury 32, A. J. Cross 31 and Neil Dark 28 also flew the Walcha flag.
