AFTER spending a few days on the Gold Coast, Sonya will then head back overseas where she will represent Cambodia in the Asian AFL Championships in Malaysia. That is where Sonya will get to celebrate her real birthday on October 9.

When quizzed about his headwear, Stephen replied it was only for the grand final and although he was sick and tired of Parra collecting the wooden spoon he would still be supporting them next season. Stephen also made the bold prediction that the Eels would win the competition in 2019.

NO doubt there were plenty of Roosters supporters as “happy as Larry” last Sunday night with every reason to be. They have bragging rights for the next 12 months along with all the other Chooks fans.

HEARD a whisper TAS athlete Joe Kermode may have forgotten to inform his parents Karen and Scott about his decision to pull out of a particular race he was in at the recent Athletic Association of Great Public Schools Championships at Homebush. The only problem was Karen and Scotty had travelled halfway across Sydney after getting up early, only to be told by Joe he wasn’t running in his first event and it would be a few hours before he attacked the track in his 400m event.

JUST a gentle reminder it is Walcha Council Picnic Day tomorrow and the office will be closed. I would like to know how many times some of us council employees have sat at the Apsley Arms Hotel across the road while sampling a few beverages and a counter lunch watching community members stroll up to the front door of the office and try to get inside the building. Nearly prepared to bet it will happen on more than one occasion tomorrow.

AFTER returning from his trip to the USA with “Pole” Bath and Mick Steep recently, North Street resident Jim Gehrke was having trouble finding his suit which he needed to wear to a function. The good news is that Jim did eventually locate the “bag of fruit” and it was exactly where he had left it – hanging on a rack at Foodworks who subcontract for a drycleaner.

RUMOUR has it that there was a “damsel in distress” at the New England Hotel who was having a bit of strife finding the ladies bathroom at the pub. When asked why she didn’t just use the one in the room she was staying in, the reply can’t be printed here.

STRANGELY enough, the “young lass” in question has probably cleaned that room countless times and must have forgotten that there was a bathroom located in the room. The only hint that will be given to the cleaner’s identity is that she may or may not be a “distant” relative of mine.

DON’T know if it’s right or not, but apparently because golf club captain Willy Brennan may not be able to play in the final round of the 4BBB Championships this Sunday, he and playing partner Wayne Brennan played last weekend where they carded a score of four under par. If that is in fact the case, it will give equal leaders at the halfway mark Miles Archdale and Anthony Smith something to chase this Sunday.

FORMER Sydney first graders “Rocky” Laurie, his brother Mark, Terry Murphy, Allan Fallah and Gary Wright are stopping off in Walcha tomorrow to stretch their legs as they head north to attend some “Men of League” functions. The boys are planning to stroll around town with our mayor Erik Noakes between 2.30 and 3pm.
