CONGRATULATIONS to teenager Thomas Donnelly who was a member of the NSW Junior Mixed Polocrosse team that competed in the national championships in Perth last week. NSW defeated Western Australia, a tri-state team and Queensland in the competition matches before rounding up Queensland for a second time in the final.

FOR his efforts, Tom was not only a member of the winning team, but was best number two rider in the junior mixed competition. Best rider in Australia in your position certainly has a ring to it, Thomas.
THE Walcha Golf Club has new 4BBB champions after Miles Archdale and Anthony Smith defeated defending champions Wayne and Willy Brennan by a couple of strokes last Sunday. The Brennan boys had notched up a hat-trick of victories before that in 2015,16 and 17.
IN the 4BBB net championships, council general manager Jack O’Hara and Walcha’s newest law enforcer Jed Wittig streeted the field after racking up 95 points over the two rounds, with a 48 followed by 47. Daylight was second, followed by veterans Tim Beaumont and Col Berry eight points behind that on 87.
FORMER Walcha junior rugby player Lachlan Creighton now plays his footy in the nation’s capital and is employed by the ACT Brumbies as a coaching staff member travelling around the southern ends of NSW tutoring kids in the sport. This week, Lachie has picked up a pretty good gig coaching kids in Japan along with a couple of other colleagues from the Brumbies.
EVER since Robert “Rocky” Laurie was named inaugural Dally M winner in 1980, most fans have thought that was the case. The man himself is far from happy that Steve “Slippery” Morris has replaced him as the first winner. The Dally M Medal, named after Henry Herbert Messenger, apparently was established by the Daily Mirror in 1979, but on numerous occasions, I have read “Rocky” Laurie was the inaugural winner. Maybe they didn’t have a presentation night in 1979. To say the “Rock” was on the warpath last Friday would be a gross understatement before he left Walcha on the Men of League Foundation coach.
THE local cricket competition kicked off last Saturday where Uralla proved too good for reigning premiers Round Swamp thanks mainly to a swashbuckling innings from Cameron Wood. Uralla play their first home game this season when they host Colts on Saturday.
IT will be an early top of the table clash after Colts proved too strong for an eight-player Kentucky outfit last Saturday. Man of the match Ed Blomfield top-scored with 79 runs. Mitchell Scrivener produced a solid all-round performance, scoring 59 runs and snaring a couple of wickets.
