“I like motorbikes, and have always wanted to give more back to the community,” Simon said.
The 60 riders – the largest contingent ever – start off from Tamworth on Sunday, November 4.
They will travel through regional NSW from November 4 to 9, and aim to raise more than $150,000 to help kids overcome barriers to reach their full potential.
Simon, an environmental consultant with GeoLINK, and his teammate David Howley, have a collection bucket outside their Armidale office, 146 Beardy Street, for Variety – the Children’s Charity.

Each rider has to raise at least $2000 to join the adventure.
Funds provide equipment and experiences to children with a disability, a chronic illness, or who face financial hardship or geographical isolation.
Variety’s regional development head Jason Bourke said:
“The Variety Postie Bike Dash is a fun way for those with a sense of adventure to help give Aussie kids a fair go.
“We’ll take our biggest fleet ever through the back roads of country NSW, and use the funds raised by our Dashers to support kids in need.
"We’ll grant kids at the schools visited vital resources such as computer coding equipment, 3D printers, and sensory equipment, which they might not otherwise have access to.”
The six-day charity ride starts at Fitzroy Street plaza, Tamworth, on Sunday, November 4.
Riders travel through Bundarra, Glen Innes, Nymboida, Coffs Harbour, Toormina, Kempsey, Kew, Taree, Nowendoc, and Walcha, before returning to Tamworth at 12.30pm, Friday, November 9.
Along the way, riders will donate equipment and resources to students at St Nicholas Catholic School, Bundarra Central School, West Glen Infants School, Nymboida Public School, Toormina Public School, and Bullimbal School.
First National Real Estate CEO Ray Ellis said his company was “thrilled to sponsor the event again this year”.
“It is an example of our local agencies’ commitment to help Aussie kids in need.”
Tamworth agent David Doherty represents First National Real Estate on the ride.
“His endeavours combined with all of our agencies throughout New England put our commitment into action,” Mr Ellis said.
“We wish all riders the best, and look forward to the many school visits along the route.”
