WELL done to Walcha Ladies Golf Club champion Cheryl McDonald on finishing runner-up in the NSW Ladies Sandgreen championships at Barraba last weekend. After 36 holes, Cheryl was tied with Sydney player Jan Crichton, who won the event on the first play-off hole.

AFTER the opening day, Cheryl was the halfway-mark leader after shooting a 78 off the stick, but the eight marker found the going a bit tougher after a rain delay of two hours on day two, finishing with 84 for an overall total of 162. The winner, who plays off a handicap of two, carded two 81s to give her an aggregate of 162 also, before sneaking home in the play-off.
STARTING this Sunday, the Walcha Golf Club will be conducting four open events in the space of eight days, commencing with the ladies this Sunday. Tomorrow week is the mixed, followed by the vets the next day, while the men’s is scheduled the day after. Best of luck to all competitors.
COLTS opener Ed Blomfield has been in very good form with the willow so far this season, compiling 211 runs in the three games he has played. In the opening game of the twenty-20 Turton Cup, Ed scored 74 against Kentucky, backed it up with 89 off the Uralla bolwers and then made 48 last Saturday, which gives him a current average of 70 runs per innings.
SWAMP number three batsman Lee Harrison spent 11 overs at the batting crease last Saturday where he plundered 70 unbeaten runs off the Colts bowlers.
COLTS new recruit Chris Watts was welcomed back to cricket by Luke Wellings who smacked his opening delivery over the boundary and then repeated the dose two balls later. Second last delivery of his spell, “Wattsy” was despatched out of the ground again by “Meggsy”, but he did get some revenge when he had him caught next ball.
FOR the second weekend in succession, Kentucky have been 1/0 after the first delivery of their innings. Last Saturday, Michael Aspinall was trapped LBW by Andrew Fuller, while seven days earlier, Bob Jex was caught behind by Steve Eveleigh off the bowling of Lachie Fletcher.
LAST Sunday, a number of local mountain bike riders tackled the 55km trek as part of the Walcha Mountain festival out Scrubby Gully road past Kilburnie before returning back to Langford. They were joined by members of the New England Mountain Bike Club, along with a few other enthusiasts.
FLYING the Walcha flag were Sam Feltham, who arrived home first, his parents “Cas” and Chris, Virginia Crawford, Melanie Benson and Matt Makeham. After completing their journey, all riders looked remarkably refreshed.
