“This year a new Environmental Citizen of the Year award has been added to the Australia Day awards,” said committee chair Aurora Reilly.
“The new award celebrates a community person, group or organisation who have shown leadership in championing litter reduction and/or environmental initiative in their local community.”
Nominees may be recognised for work such as, preserving the environment, innovative use of the ‘Return & Earn’ scheme to fundraise for a meaningful cause, or for fostering partnerships that achieved litter reduction and recycling outcomes.
Each local award winner is in the running to be a state winner and receive $5 000 grant from Return & Earn towards their community initiative.
Nomination forms for this award, the regular Citizen of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year, and Community Group of the Year awards are available on the Walcha Council website, Walcha Council office, Walcha Post Office and Walcha Newsagency.
