Walcha Golf Club has its fourth different A grade champion in as many years after Andrew Bowden turned a two shot deficit into a four stroke advantage in the final round of the 2018 Club Championships last Sunday.

Heading into the last 18 holes, the bloke they call ‘Buddha’ was two shots behind third round leader Anthony Smith who surrendered his lead early in the final round.
The runner-up was still in the game around the 16th hold but was unable to capitalise on his opportunities and was full of praise for his opponent.
Winning the Nick Cross Memorial for best nett score over the four rounds was some consolation for the local sheriff who claimed the prize ahead of Wayne and Willy Brennan.
It became a family affair when the winner’s father Jamie Bowden streeted the B Grade field to take the championship by 16 strokes from John Mann.
The new club champion was also Walcha junior champion for three years, 2007 to 2009 and follos in the footsteps of 2016 club champ Andrew Brennan who racked up six local junior championships between 2010 and 2015.
Former club champion Tim Stackman won his 11th title in succession and his 12th overall in 2015 before AJ Brennan won the next year and then was followed by his father Wayne Brennan in 2017, who claimed the Veteran’s title last Sunday from captain Will Brennan.
Club president Allan Green won the C grade championship from John McCormack and would like to remind all club members their annual presentation night will be held this Sunday after a 4BBB medley event is played that afternoon from 1pm.
