CONGRATULATIONS to the cast and crew of the Walcha Central School production of Seussical Jr performed at the Multi-Purpose Centre last Thursday. What an overall performance by one and all. THEY reckon fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, which could easily be the case with Lulu Thomson who played Mayzie in the play. If that wasn’t a young Sophie Thomson, Lulu’s mum, on stage last Thursday, I’m a pretty bad judge.
Shades of green
DURING recent times, four-year-old Toby Wellings visited Paperdolls with his mother Rachael, and while he was in there, shop owner Janelle Archdale commented on what a lovely green pair of shorts Tobe had on. His reply was swift: “They aren’t green, they are teale”, to which Janelle countered, “no, I think they are more like a jade”.
RUMOUR has it that Transwest employee Lisa Rollan ran into a minor problem while serving some lamb cutlets and gravy the other day. By all accounts, Lisa forgot to take the lid off the soon-to-become gravy container but still poured the gravy. Probably a little mess Lisa could have done without.
The key to progress
WHEN Niangala mayoress Julie-Anne Galvin strolled out of the pool last week, I knew it wouldn’t be long before she returned after spotting her car keys on the kiosk bench. Not long later, Julie-Anne returned with a sheepish look on her face and was greeted with something along the lines of, “looking for your keys?”.
Thanks to the people who dob their mates in from time to time because without you, there would be no What’s the Goss?.
Mystery raffle
AT the recent Walcha Veterans Christmas Special golf day, raffle tickets were being sold where each person wrote their name on the ticket before it went into the accompanying bucket. When I went to purchase mine, I thought you just took one half of the ticket and a winning number would be called from the other half. As I didn’t write my name on any tickets, what chance of winning the raffle was there?
Very Berry Memorial golf event
STILL on the subject of golf, what a great roll-up last Sunday for the Ann Berry Memorial. Our group played the round with the Barraclough boys former Walcha Roos premiership-winning front rower Shane, former Uralla cricket captain David and big-hitting Jason. Thanks for the day, guys. It was good fun.
Seven years of fun
HAPPY birthday to Brax Kemp who reaches the milestone of seven years on the planet this Sunday. Brax celebrated his birthday early with family and friends with a barbecue at the pool last Saturday. It was the first time the new pool barbecue, donated by Rotary, has been used outside Flippers breakfast each Thursday.
THE pool barbecue is free to use, but needs to be booked before you do so. Besides that, all users need to do is clean up when they are finished cooking. For more information or to book, please call the pool on 6777 2200.
See The Star
A REMINDER that the Anglican Church is putting on a free family movie night on Sunday, December 23 in the grounds of the church. Barbecue food will be available from 6.30pm and there is free popcorn for those interested. The Star will be screened under the stars when it gets dark, and everyone is encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets. No alcohol is permitted and all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Roped in to help
LOCAL “ambo” Col Crossman was giving me a hand to put out the pool lane ropes on Tuesday in preparation for swimming club when he became a bit concerned he couldn’t find the end of one rope. He was never going to locate the “missing” rope because only five ropes are required to divide six lanes not six, as Col eventually realised.
Broom-handle star
HEARD it along the grapevine that IGA employee Natasha Foster was putting on some free entertainment in the shop recently singing into the end of a broom handle. During her performance, Tash trod on the bristle part of the broom and went base over apex, much to the amusement of her co-workers.
Cool break
THE Walcha Flippers held a Christmas party on Tuesday and now go into recess until the end of January. Pool attendances on Tuesday nearly reached 350 after primary Niangala, Yarrowitch and Woolbook schools, along with morning swimmers and the Flippers, made up the numbers.
Merry Christmas!
AS this will be the last column before the big red-suited chap arrives, I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable Christmas. Thanks to the people who dob their mates in because without you, there would be no What’s the Goss?.
