The kitchen facilities of the Walcha Multi-Purpose Centre will be upgraded with a grant of $87,744 through round two of the $100 million Regional Cultural Fund.
Mr Anderson said the upgrade and fit out of Walcha's Multi-Purpose Centre kitchen facilities was great news for Walcha and the district.
“The Centre is located within the Walcha Central School and is the biggest function centre within this community,” he said.
“It truly carries the multi-purpose label as it is used for many cultural and community functions such as operas, theatrical productions, school functions, weddings, birthday parties, funerals and public meetings.
“The upgrade will allow the venue to host performances by major touring acts as well as local performers, amateur theatre groups and schools.
“If we can attract these major acts then it is great news for Walcha, bringing people to town to enjoy these shows, people in beds, filling seats in restaurants and hotels. It’s a win for the entire community.”
Mr Anderson also congratulated the Walcha Central School, Walcha Town & Country Club and the Walcha Council who are co-contributors of the remaining $20,000 for the $107,744 project.
A new public amenities block will be built at Yarrowitch Hall thanks to the Public Reserves Management Fund program providing a grant of $84,319. This will be supplemented by $30,000 raised by the local community.
Demand for the Public Reserves Management Fund is highly competitive Mr Anderson said.
“Last year 777 applications were received, so I am delighted to see Yarrowitch getting a share of the funding,” he said.
“This is fantastic news for the enthusiastic volunteers and supporters of the Yarrowitch Hall.”
Walcha Council Mayor, Cr Eric Noakes said the Yarrowitch community was a strong and hard-working group.
“This new block replaced an ageing facility and now visitors passing through the locality have a nice place to stop. It’s fantastic to see Kevin providing the support to the Yarrowitch community and to see this new amenities block up and going,” he said.
