TEENAGED Kentucky cricket captain Daniel Boyd handed in a Player of the Match performance last Saturday against Colts. The 17-year-old made 71 runs which included 11 boundaries and was involved in a 113-run second wicket partnership with Brad Partridge. Just for good measure, he captured three wickets earlier in the day. Good on ya, Daniel.

IN the same game, Walcha Cricket Association president Ed Blomfield went within seven runs of registering a century before he hit a return catch to Brad Partridge. Ed had batted right throughout the Colts innings and was the last player dismissed.

The other Walcha player, Steph Sweeney, who prides himself on his fitness and can spring out of bed like an antelope (so he reckons), strained a quad muscle early in his innings...
IN the vets match at Armidale, the “Bushies” made around 170 runs from their 36 overs which included a 30 retired by left-hander Wayne Boyd. Fellow “leftie” Brian Wellings held an end up from the time he went to the crease, with the team total on 110 until he left at 170. Brian made 11 runs.
THE other Walcha player, Steph Sweeney, who prides himself on his fitness and can spring out of bed like an antelope (so he reckons), strained a quad muscle early in his innings, which forced him to retire hurt.
WHEN “Pothole” Boyd joined Brian Wellings at the crease late in the innings, they overheard the Townies captain mention he loved bowling to left-handers. The first delivery “Pothole” received from the Armidale skipper was a rank full toss which was despatched into the adjacent dressingroom block.
KEEPING count of the overs wasn’t high on the agenda when the Bushies were called in early before facing their allotted 40 overs. Then when the Townies batted, there was some debate if they had received the right amount of overs when stumps were drawn.
WALCHA were represented at the Guyra “Top of the Range” Lawn Bowls Fours tournament last weekend by Steve Goodwin and his son Kyle, “Fred” Cameron and his son Chris, where they won one of their five games over the two days.
NOT that the foursome weren’t in the hunt. They won 31-12 against a Uralla/Armidale composite team and lost every one of their four other games during the final end of those matches.
SWIMMING Club members are reminded that Flippers resume next Tuesday afternoon when week six of competition is scheduled. There is a full program first up after the break, with events set down for all four strokes. The pool will be closed to the public from 3.30pm on Tuesday.
AT the halfway mark of swim meets set down for this season, which doesn’t include the club championships, swimmers have recorded 162 PBs. Week four was the best, when 65 PBs were swum.
