WITH one round remaining in the Walcha News Cup competition, leaders Uralla can’t be beaten for the minor premiership and will pick up their second Yalgoo Shield since joining the Walcha cricket competition in the 1997-98 season. Back then, they were also known as the New England shearers and played under the leadership of John Andrews for two seasons.

URALLA then missed one season before returning in 2000-01 to claim their first minor premiership under the captaincy of David Barraclough. Once again, Uralla pulled out of the Walcha competition until they nominated again in 2012-13 and have played here since.
COLTS will finish wooden spooners for only the seventh time in nearly 60 years following a season most of their players would rather forget. After opening their 2018-19 campaign with a win over Kentucky, they haven’t won a match since. Colts are still in the competition and will take on Round Swamp in the final round and then kentucky in the minor semi.

ONE other change which is close to my heart, the Colleen Cross Memorial Trophy has been shifted to the last Sunday in March. The new date just about falls on March 28, the birthday of club co-patron and life member I. J. Cross, husband of the late Colleen Cross who left us on Australia Day 1986, far too early at the age of 49.
THREE more Flippers records were broken on Tuesday, including the 12 years girls 4x50m medley, when Jemma Warden stopped the clock in 3 minutes 21.35 seconds to shave less than half a second off the previous record held by Georgia Brown since 2005.
IN the open girls 4x50m medley, Chyna Smith lowered the old record held by Chloe “Nigel” Mackaway. Although “Nigel” has lost three of her records in the space of a week, she still holds 12 records across four different age divisions.
THE third record to go on Tuesday was in the 16 years boys 4x50m medley when Thomas Micallef lowered his own time by nearly four seconds. Abbey Mackaway went within 100th of a second of bettering her record in the 16 years 50m breaststroke.
