On Tuesday she was given $2,000 to distribute however she liked amongst Walcha community groups.

Mrs Laurie chose to split the money five ways as follows: 500 dollars to go to the Woolbrook Public School P&F; the Walcha Hospital Auxiliary will receive $500; the Walcha Historical Society was also given $500, and both the Walcha Support Group and the Westpac Helicopter will get $250 each. 

The Woolbrook Primary School students were keen to further develop their vegetable garden according to Mrs Laurie ( who was appointed P&F president the night before).

"I know they need a shade structure to do that so I wanted some of the money to go to the school's P&F so they can do it," she said.

The other groups were just identified because of the good work they do in the local community Mrs Laurie said.  

Walcha Vet Supplies owner Mr Peter King thanked his sponsors Waratah Fencing and Durox for helping with the cash splash.

The company is now inviting nominations for the next  local hero award to be announced in July.
