THE opening round of the 2019 Men's Championships were played last Sunday where club champion Andrew Bowden opened his campaign with a four under par 74 to lead eight-time champion Simeon Cross by a stroke.

Eight shots separate the A grade field of eight players which includes Kyle Goodwin who is in third place on 77.
Former club president Barry Hoad leads B grade on 81 from Alex Gill 83 and current champion Jamie Bowden 84, while Brian Lynch not only leads C grade on 87, he was declared the overall winner on the day after he shot the lights to register a very impressive 61 nett which entitled him to a trophy donated by club captain Will Brennan.
Lefthander Mal Ballard is four shots off the pace in C grade on 91.

Sweepstakes went to Miles Archdale, Barry Hoad and Alex Gill (all 66), Kyle Goodwin, Doug McDonald and Wayne Brennan (all 68).
Sharpest shooters at the pins were Michael Stackman (3), Wayne Brennan (9), Owen Presnell (16) and Col Berry (18).
The Eagle's Nest was robbed for the third week in succession after Michael Stackman eagled the 14th.
In match play, Col Berry defeated Crichton Barr 1 up. Bradman's Bat went to president Allan Green with 85 nett, which equated to 105 off the stick.
Last Saturday, Brian Lynch won the weekly nine-hole competition after he accumulated 21 stableford points. Runner-up was John Mann 17 points, while Barbara Mulligan won the ladies division from Margaret Higgins on a countback after both players finished with 15 points.
NTP on three went to Brian Wall.
This Sunday is the second round of the championships where club secretary Jenny Lisle is in charge of supplying the prize.
