As part of the program, the club has received more than $8,000 to help pay for a new trap system.

Walcha Gun Club president Graham Casey said the Easybird system gave members an infinite variety of options during shooting competitions.

“We now have four traps, two of them providing the shooters with targets crossing in front of them, while the other two are mounted on trollies with a 360 degree arc and an infinite variety of clay birds to shoot at," Casey said.

“The new traps also launch clay birds as either a single or double pair of targets."

Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson was on hand to pass on the funds and said the new trap system would be a major benefit to the club.

“This is great news for the gun club it will permit them to acquire two mobile traps, a base with a remote release system as well as the construction of housing for a skeet shooting system," Anderson said.

“Some of the money was used for the establishment of a wind break of trees as well as shade trees.

"Under the same program we’ve secured $19,910 to replace the verandah floor on the Walcha Museum and the Walcha Golf Club received $19,131 for work on the roof of the club house.

“So I know this type of support gives community groups the important boost they need to maintain their membership and provides challenging facilities that attracts other competitors to the club to compete."
